Established as the Center for Special Studies (CSS), the Center began operations in 1985. The late Major General Meir Amit, IICC founder and first Chairman – who served as Chief of Israel Defense Intelligence (1962-1964) and Chief of the Mossad (1963-1969) – established the IICC upon the foundations of four pillars:

Education – sharing knowledge, especially with youth from Israel´s periphery and foreign visitors, to provide perspective into Israel´s security concerns.

Research – conducting research and analysis, and imparting knowledge on Israel´s Intelligence and management of terrorism.

Commemoration – remembering the fallen heroes of Israel´s Intelligence community.

Heritage – documenting and sharing the contribution of Israel´s Intelligence services to the country´s history, security and moral fiber.
